Anybody having trouble with iCloud password prompts?

While at a site, I got a OS Verification Required window.

Entering my iCloud password got an immediate 'Account Locked for security reasons'. No second or third tries permitted. Similar notifications appear on all my Apple kit.

I thought this might not be Apple actual, so I gave MY APPLE a call. Turns out they're supposedly updating a lot of their stuff and it's triggered random security alerts. I was advised that [www.apple.com] showed iCloud and some other things had something going on. After sorting things, I saw that Apple Pay was in the red but everything else was OK.

Logging into all the different gear and services was tedious, but everything seems fine now.

No, I didn't.

Nor, after talking to Apple, do I believe it was an attempt.

Recently, I've had numerous times where iCloud wanted me to enter the password for my Gmail account (I gave up on Apple Mail years ago). Last week, I upgraded to macOS 10.13.4 and it took me FOUR tries before the upgrade completely finished. I have NO idea why I'm seeing all this wonkiness. dunno smiley

Not sure how iCloud and gmail are connected.

Have you ever gotten a request for your iCloud password when visiting a website, as in the OP? That seems very fishy or phishy to me.

I have iCloud set to sync my email which IS Gmail (I had said I dropped Apple Mail). I guess that's why iCloud needs my password.

iCloud is a mess. very often I upgrade an iPhone and I get prompted to enter password on another (older) iPhone, MacBook, iPad, etc. I enabled 2 factor authentication. I get these passwords for iCloud, for Facetime, iMessages, even though it is the same account, same password, I need to enter multiple times.

I wonder what happens if you have a single Apple device, how you get these 2FA codes.

Folks, why would the Apple employee not discuss phishing if that was indicated by the facts?
