Lock Your Mac With a Keyboard Shortcut

If you don’t want to wait for your Mac to go to sleep, you can quickly lock your Mac with a simple keyboard shortcut. If you’re using a newer Mac where the Power button is a key, just press Control+Shift+Power. If you’re using an older Mac with an optical drive, press Control+Shift+Eject instead. Just like that, your Mac will be locked.

You press any key to "wake" the computer, and you'll be at the login screen and then you just login normally.

All Control+Shift+Power does is "accelerate" the energy saving display sleep to happen immediately. You'd also have to have your computer set up to require a password on display sleep for this to work.

Does my 2017 MBP have a power button? I don't see it.

It does. That's the fingerprint reader on the upper-right of the keyboard.

However, Apple never implemented this feature for the new power button on 2016/2017 MBPs.

Frustrates me endlessly. I have a 20-year habit of doing the keystroke to rapidly shut down, restart or sleep a Mac.
