Small Aluminum I beam

I have a piece of equipment that is designed to snap into a 1” ceiling grid. Unfortunately for me I have concrete ceilings. I’m thinking that I can just use an aluminum I beam and mount that to the ceiling and then clip the device to that as the I beam is identical to ceiling grid on the bottom. The problem is I can’t seem to find small aluminum I beams anywhere.

Can you use ceiling grid ? I assume the equipment isn't massive. You should be able to attach it with a couple of anchor bolts and a couple of pieces of wire hangar.

It needs a solid mount without swaying. I could always use two pieces of grid and bolt them together in the middle but I was really hoping for an stronger more elegant solution. These are for Wireless access points that are a little heavier than most.

Similar to an I-beam:

H-bar

This is the more common structure for suspending stuff:

Strut channel

I think you may be better off with strut channel. Anchor that directly to your ceiling and then suspend whatever you want off of the channel. The last image of a L bracket may well be the same size as your ceiling grid. If not - attach ceiling grid between two pieces of the bracket. Trust me it'll be far stronger than ceiling grid LOL.

Jamie has the best idea... UniStrut is a pretty strong thing and very useful. Paint it whatever color you want before you attach it to the ceiling. And.. be sure to mark the safe weight capacity of the assembly on the side with a safety sticker, because some knucklehead will try to use it for something inappropriate some years hence..
