Yes, heard of it and had it years ago. It is among many of the dishes my grandmother used to make for us.

I've heard of it... even seen pictures, but never known anyone in real life to do it.

We have something called Gala Pie which is a pork pie with hard boiled egg through the middle. Commonly found on the deli counter, buy a whole one or a slice.

My Mother made a dish similar, but with some kind of slab of beef. It was thin enough to place hard boiled eggs in the middle, then the beef was rolled over the eggs and tied off, then into the oven to finish.

I think it was an Italian recipe, and it usually ended up in the large pot of spaghetti sauce (Mom was 100% Italian), but I haven't had it since I was a kid. She passed away back in '88 and none of my Sisters remember how to make it, OR pasta e fagioli, another childhood favorite. sad smiley

In my family that was the only way meatloaf was made.

I never knew that there was another way...
