Apple Watch RUD

I purchased a Series 1 Apple Watch for my wife not too long after they were introduced. Her's was a refurb purchased through Woot.com around Feb '16. Yesterday she hands me the pieces of her watch. She said she was taking off her sweatshirt and the next thing she knows there are pieces of her watch falling out of the sleeve. it seems that the battery had bloated and popped the screen off. Think there's any chance of getting Apple to replace that? I'm guessing not, but is it worth asking?

Had almost the same thing happen a year ago. On mine, the watch face came loose about a quarter inch.

It was a known problem, and Apple replaced the watch.

Here's the thread(s).

FWIW, I dont think I mentioned it -- but they just popped the old guts into a new case -- so it was like getting a new watch.

make an appointment at an apple store

A cheap generic band failed on my Apple Watch last week and the result was a cracked Watch. Sad horn. Good thing I have a warranty on it, but that $10 watch band ended up being a $70 watch band!

Sweet! Thank you one and all. I don't think they'll be repairing my wife's watch. The screen was ripped off of the watch so there are tiny ribbon cables hanging out of the top. I'd say they'd most likely replace it.

I've seen a few reports of a swollen battery in a Watch, out of warranty, being replaced/repair free of charge.

There was one mentions somewhere that the Watch was replaced with what appeared to be a factory fresh, watch in a plain brown wrapper, so possibly a refurb-type, for the fee of replacing the battery.

So either way, it's cheaper than just about any 'new' watch.

Wife reports that Apple is sending a box to return it and they'll repair or replace it at their discretion. I can only hope that they send a Series 2 or Series 3.

Great!

If it's an AW and not an AWS1, it's a very good bet you'd get an S1. In any event it seems like this will be a free repair.

Im betting they do just what they did with my kids -- replace everything except for the motherboard/memory.

I can't see them taking the time to repair it. It's worth very little at this point. It would be cheaper for them to send a refurb S1 off the shelf. The screen popped off inside her sleeve and she ripped the guts apart when she pulled the shirt off. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. They've got to be running low on Series 1 refurbs by now though.
