So I have 2 months left in my citOne iPhone loan. This is an iPhone 7. Now when payed off, I understand the phone is mine and I could keep it and also get a new one. Am I right?

Same thing here with AT&T. Not sure what I'll do when it is up in November.

As soon as it's fully paid for, have the carrier UNLOCK the phone. When they ask why you want it unlocked, let them know that you're getting good offers from other carriers and are ready to switch. That's about the only way your current carrier will give you a better deal than whatever you're paying now.

My phone is already unlocked. It was a Verizon phone that I transferred to the T-Mobile gezzer plan. I’m assuming that since the installment plan from Apple will be all payed off, the phone will be mine.

Of course you would want to get another one and get back in debt!

I still have my old 5s and it makes a great iPod without the cell service that I transferred to my then new iPhone 6+ that was just recently paid off.

If I understand correctly, my att/BB pre-paid 'Phone (currently running with my 5s SIM) would have to operate on an att pre-paid account for some months before they'll unlock it.

So even if I used it as is for a year or two, I'd still have to get an att pre-paid account for x months before they'll unlock it.

Or try my luck with some third-party online option?

Use it for six months then ask att for unlock. Worked for my wife’s Bedt Buy purchased SE

Yes, but as RAM stated, it has to be used on an ATT plan for 6 months. I've been using mine on an ATT MVNO for about a year and I was thinking of asking for an unlock, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to cut it.

The 5s SIM in the SE has been on an att plan since 2007, but it's always been a post-paid plan. But if that's good enough for att to unlock it, then I'll stay long enough to get it unlocked before considering options.

And yes, warm, I agree— pretty sure an MVNO won't help.
