Curious how fast migration took.

We've been running into glacially slow migration from MBP retinas to new MBP touchbars over Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt 3 via Target mode.

Copy speeds around 6 MB/s, which is ridiculous.

Happens on multiple, different Macs. Generally running 10.12.6 or 10.13.6 on the source machines.

Asked a friend who works at an Apple Retail store, haven't heard anything back yet.

Is there any reason you used target mode instead of from a time machine back up?

Took 3-4 hours from a time machine backuop for ~ 550Gb - still working through getting passwords sorted - always a pain, especially for little used sites/aps.

Because it's a corporate laptop at a pharma company and they don't use Time Machine. That's the method we use to deploy a new laptop when an old one is being re-allocated.
