Why do they package things like this?

I just bought a new Gerber multitool at Lowes and it came in a really strong clamshell. Took a sharp knife and a lot of strength to get it open. No easy-zip tab. Finally got it out to find it was STILL encased in a plastic and heavy carboard hang-pack. I needed the darn multitool to get it out of the packaging.
I’m liking Amazon’s frustration-free packaging more and more...

Makes it harder to steal? Sad when the packaging is more durable than the item in the package.

I buy a lot of stuff on ebay and for me, it's the tapers... some people go absolutely crazy with tape. It's exceptionally distressful when there is layer upon layer of tape to cut through, but your valuable, easily damaged item is just 1mm below the tape you are cutting.

RAM sealed in an anti-static bag. GREAT, except it's packed in a padded envelope.. inside is another one 100% covered with tape. Open it and find the anti-static bag folded closed and taped to death. ARGH!

The thinking is that the blood trail will make it relatively easy to apprehend the thief.

It is what it is.

theft deterrent blister packaging. I hates it, my precious.
I keep my little swiss army knife sharp, and cut the inside curve of those to get the stuff out. Or have to use kitchen shears.

I like that pic, cbelt3! thumbs up

I simply HATE that type of packaging! Especially on an item that doesn't have much cost.

As has been mentioned, theft. Amazon can get away with "frustration free packaging" because they don't have shoplifters.

I use a pair of straight cut aviation snips to open those packages.
