The 80's version of The Twilight Zone had an episode where the person at work accidentally called his own house, and he answered. I forget what happened. (It was The Twilight Zone, so it likely wasn't good.)

same as it ever was

Happened to me about 4 months ago.

I loved watching Rod Serling and The Twilight Zone when I was a kid.

I've got several of those, some time ago.

I think that got round as a telltale spam call, and it's not all that popular a tactic.

I see a lot with the city name and CA. They're about 50-50 with real names and numbers, most likely spoofed. A much smaller percentage are actual telemarketer calls without spoofing other's numbers.

That has happened to me once and, that was several years ago. I'd say 80% ~ 90% of calls I get are still spam. That pisses me off because I'm sure that telcos could stop the BS calls cold IF they wanted to.

My understanding is that modern digital switching systems carry both the caller ID and the billing ID. It should be a simple matter to compare the country code, area code, and exchange for the two.

This is timely - and should NOT be political:

[arstechnica.com]

If you want to take some kind of action yourself you can file a complaint with the FCC directly:

[consumercomplaints.fcc.gov]

Or by phone: 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322)

Hopefully there is directive to the carriers in the US to block this practice soon - as far as I'm concerned eliminating false positives is an acceptable collateral damage for the daily and incessant annoyance and potential financial risk of inadvertently disclosing personal details over the phone.
