Recommendations - an external USB 1TB bootable SSD drive

I am happy to get a good case and buy a decent SSD - like some of those listed recently here.

If there's a good brand to get ~$150 with everything together, that's fine.

If not, what's a good case? I know there are some USB case differences relevant when using an SSD for bandwidth issues etc. I want to be able to boot off this to run via USB3.

There are some recommendations on the forum, but I think this is a dynamic question so thought I'd post for the latest.

TIA!

As a boot disk, get the Samsung T5 or WD Passport SSD

roll your own.... although ... do you really need a full TB? 500 GB is less than half the cost (if cost is a thing)

Those small USB 3 cases are nearly all the same. AL housing either with screws or without. main thing is UASP support, but just about everything has it. Ive got a pair of these, $10. Work great, conctruction is fine.

At your price point (cheapest money can buy) I dont think any one drive is better than the other. If you want the best drive, Id say a 860 EVO or Sandisk Ultra.

If you want something more portable, you might consider a m.2 NVME drive/case. About the same price.
