Messing with new iPad Pro 11

And the new Apple folio and Apple Pencil 2.

Quick first impressions:

1) It's REALLY fast. No lag on anything except for downloads from the internet.

2) The screen is nice.

3) Looks like a really big iPhone 4 or 5 - same 'flat' sides.

4) Nice screen.

5) Folio keyboard looks cheap, but seems to work.

6) Just starting to use the Apple Pencil 2, I like the magnetic 'dock' and wireless charging.

So far, still mostly syncing so need more time to play with it. However, if you have an older Mac, you will need a USB-A to USB-C cable or converter if you want to put your own music on the iPad.

Post if you have any thoughts/questions.

1) Have you Used the previous 10.5 Pro? Compared to that? Its fast.

3) Yeah... everyone keeps saying it looks like an X phone... but looks like a bezel-less iPhone 5 to me. Wonder if the edges will cut into wrists/hands/etc while using. iPads are kinda "soft to the touch" with gentle rounded edges and backs...

Haven't used a 10.5 model, so don't have any clear comparison.

Not sure yet, but doesn't seem soft and fuzzy. Apple has made hard products lately - USBC MBPR needs a case to carry it, and the iPhone X is uncomfortable nkd IMHO. We will see whether this iPad is the same.

Cool. When I got my wife a 10.5 iPP a year ago I thought it wouldnt be any big deal vs her iPad Air or my kids mini 3s. Sure, a jump in speed, but meh.

But boy was I wrong. Its lighting fast, no lag ever. Jumping from screens was the most apparent. Butter smooth. The screen is just richer. Speakers are useable. Even my kids 2018 iPads are lacking compared to it.

A music (or other) transfer can’t be done wirelessly?

You have to authenticate first via a wired connection AFAIK. Then future syncs/transfers can be wireless.

For iTunes syncing etc.

Wow. Up to 1 TB now. Don't know if it's worth $400 over the 512 GB, though.

Some quick followups:

1) I think the iPhone 4/5 series are some of the most beautiful tech Apple has ever made. The new iPad - despite the obvious homage - just looks ugly to me.

2) The folio keyboard really is kind of crappy as a keyboard. And the new design without a clear Pencil holder is a clear compromise.

3) It's still really fast.

Ive never liked it. Got the kids a basic $10 cases + Logitech keyboard.

More cumbersome if you want something trulry on the go... but better in the long run. Id prob wait until some 3rd part ones came along. Ive seen some for the current IPP with backlight, wrist rests and detachable from stand...
