When copying files to a BIG HD, would Mac OS be as fast CCC?

I just ordered a 10TB drive for a new backup - I will be copying mere data files (no OS). In the past, I seem to remember that it was actually faster to duplicate the drive with CCC rather than instruct the OS to copy 1000s of files. Anyone actually KNOW?

I do such a copy about every 18 months as I update my data storage system and simply put, the Finder is faster than CCC. It’s only by about 50% or so and CCC’s advantage is that it can verify your copy (which will make it even slower) but the Finder gets close to theoritecal max speed when copying and CCC is noticeably slower, especially with 15TB.

Depending on settings, CCC can be faster.

I know that copying little itty bitty files in the finder is not its strength - is the 15TB you're talking about large data/media files?

Mostly movies, so 1-6GB files. However there were a lot of smaller files as well.

I suggest sticking to CCC. I move terabytes of data each night. If there is an error, the finder stops and you have to start over. CCC will finish.
