I bought the TCL 55" Roku at CotCo. My experience in the past has been, if a device makes the 1st year of use, it is unlikely to fail with in the 2 extra years.
Back then, with our old TV, I had no issue going in an repairing myself.
But these new beasts have little access to repair power supplies (most common failure).

I think the CostCo extended warranty is $35. Am I being foolish?

I've had decent luck with the Sam's extended warranty (squaretrade) a few times. It's a crap shoot.

For that cost, I might consider doing it. What's the price of the warranty as a % of the cost of the TV? If it's a $2,000 TV, $35 is a small price to pay for a little insurance. But if it's a $250 TV, I would probably skip it.

I only buy bargain brands because the pricier stuff kept crapping out after the extended wty. period. Now I just go cheap but good enough and if it conks out, get another cheapie. Knock on wood, my cheapies have outlasted my name brands.

I did it on our last TV I bought about two years ago.
I was cheap peace of mind.
If you use the Costco CC to purchase the TV then buy the warranty, I think it gets the warranty to 5 years. I am not completely sure of the length, so double check that.

Well first, doesn't Costco automatically extend the warranty for one year, just by buying it from them? So you get two years free out of the box? Do you have a credit card that would also extend the warranty for another year (Costco used to take Amex so any purchase at Costco would include 3 years of warranty).

Anyway, if this is $35 for year 2: maybe
$35 for year 3: probably not;
$35 for year 4: no, for me.

they now only take CostCo branded VISA, which is nothing like the old AmEx. I don't think the give the 2nd year anymore. Instead selling this additional 2 year warranty. It's all about the Benjamins.

SquareTrade 3 Years (For TVs Under $500) [www.costco.com]

Quote
Costco.com
2 Years Costco Concierge Plus 3 Years Extended Protection by SquareTrade = 5 Years Total for TVs Purchased Through Costco

You should actually get 5 years total when buying the TV at Costco and the SquareTrade warranty at Costco.

This is DIFFERENT from other places, where if you buy a TV, it comes with a 1 year manufacturer warranty and if you add a 3 year SquareTrade warranty, it runs concurrently with the manufacturer warranty for a total of 3 years.

I don’t have time to read all responses, but some TVs sold at Costco come with 2 year warranty and if you pay with Costco Citi card you get additional two years. QED.

thanks Gareth. Didn't read the fine print. Now that seems a deal for $35.
Hope I can still qualify, just go it the other day. Still in the box til the mount comes.

Worth it.

My Costco TV blinked out 1 month before its 4-year warranty was over, and they gave a brand up much-updated replacement.
