I bought a new (older model) MacBook Air, $200 off

my wife's MBP 2011 no longer charges. 13", 16 GB RAM (probably too much) and 256 Crucial M4 SSD.

best buy has this model for $200 off (technically $199 off since apple does not add the .99 at the end)

Why this and not 2018 model?

I like MagSafe (I know it is Magsafe 2, I need to get some adapter)
I am skeptical about the new style keyboard on 2018 model (dust issue, less travel range from what I hear)
I don't think retina is a must
I like the older style USB-A ports, SD card slot

I am not sure but it may be possible to upgrade the SSD later (even if this is not possible, 512 is still plenty).

So, I bought an older machine, yes, it may not be supported as long as the 2018 model, but it should be supported for 5-6 years with OS updated.

I used a Citi card which adds warranty, so I need to spend the $200 I saved on Apple care to bring the warranty to 3 years and Citi card should add 2 years for a total of 5 years.

Now I need to think of a plan to replaced my 2011 MBP 15" which may develop GPU issue again. even thought it was fixed by Apple, from what I understand these issue come back.

That's a great machine.

I've looked at upgrading the SSD. I'm not sure if it's possible; the 1TB sticks are thicker, so I don't know if they fit.

You could buy one of those cheap micro-SD cards today, and get an adapte to put it into the SD slot. That's what I did, and I love it.

Solid choice — I've been using one for the past few months as our family computer. It's plenty for what it needs to do. And I'm a big fan of still having all of those ports — even if some consider them to be legacy.

I'm with you on not the newest model, but why not just get a new battery?

Already tried that, also a new MagSafe DC in Board. I also did SMC reset first, PRAM reset, nothing helps. Multiple chargers. It appears the problem is on the logic board.
