My buddy, Max, has crossed the rainbow bridge.
Posted by: Paul F.
Date: November 26, 2018 08:45PM
My well loved, spoiled rotten, some-times rugged outdoorskitty, handsome in his permanent tuxedo, best friend, Max, took a final downturn in his health last night. He's been living in Arizona with my parents for the last couple years, since I moved from the country into the "city".
Max's move was going to be temporary, but not only did my mom dote on him, but his elderly kitty bones enjoyed the warmth. We decided he would stay there to live in comfort with his staff of two.

For the last year or so, he'd been battling what his vet assumed (after a bunch of tests) was likely a colon cancer.
He took a downturn last night, and this morning, got in to see the vet.
He was hurting.
It was time.

He's been my buddy for 18 years.
I knew his days were short... but I had really hoped to see him again at Christmas.
Just for one more forehead bump... one more snuggle.
It wasn't to be.

Be well, Max. Sounds like whether it was all the way from Arizona or from the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, Max couldn’t help but know he was one lucky boy to have a best friend like you, and loves you right back.

Oh Paul, So sorry to hear this. I can say the same thing to you people said to me when Malibu died, "Be glad you gave him a good life." I know that is true, and I know it won't stop you from missing him. Sending sympathy.

18 well-lived years. A cat can't ask for much more, but it's more than tough on the humans they leave behind after being a part of their lives for such a long time. So sorry to learn you've lost such an irreplaceable part of your life, and for some empty days ahead.

It'll get better, but it takes awhile. Celebrate his life - and yours.

sad smiley My condolences on the loss of your extra-special kitty (I have a certain fondness for cats who wear those elegant tuxedos). Hope you can do what blooz said: "Be glad you gave him a good life."

Max, please say Hello to my Duffy, Moira, and Tinkerbell — all gone within the past year and a half, and missed every single day.

18 years! What an wonderfully long life for a cat. Growing up I had a black and white just like Max. I had a race car track with a high curve and he would hide behind it and bat the cars as they passed. The object of the race was to make it past the “troll”. I think I even have a Polaroid of him in action somewhere in a family photo album.

Just remember all the joy he brought you.

Condolences. Kitty lived a good long life. He surely had it better than a lot of his feline compatriots.

Hey All...
Thank you for the kind thoughts.

Just have a couple minutes but to answer a couple things;
testcase;
Yup... my Browning .40. I had finished cleaning it and giving it a wipedown, and set it on "his" perch while I attended other things. He hopped up and plopped down with his paw on it. I thought it was cute so I grabbed my camera. The camera had just beeped ready when Max ripped off that big yawn.

Thrift Store Scott;
There's a poem somewhere about pets and the "Rainbow Bridge". I don't dare look for it, or I'll start bawling at work.

DP;
I was moving from my place next to hundreds of acres that Max had free roam of, to an interim place of 600 square feet where he wouldn't have outdoor priviledges... We kinda decided that for Max's mental health transitioning from "indoor-outdoor kitty" to "indoors only", having someone around all day in a bigger place was better for him.

Got work to do!
Thank you all again.

...more kind thoughts and hopes ...

My last one was a rescue. Literally . someone dumped a cat that didn't seem to be familiar with what outside was. The neighbor's fat cat was beating the crap out of it. Fighting, not trying to get lucky. It wasn't fighting back. In my back yard. I intervened. Kitty really liked being inside and was real clingy.
Unfortunately my bags were also packed to go on vacation for almost three weeks, so it ended up at my sister's.
Where it is to this day.
