New MacBook air. does not shut down. should I force shut?

Brand new MBA (2017 model). I came with Mojave, I think 14.0, there was an updated so 2 days ago I updated to 14.? (I guess it was 14.0.1). Anyway, I made 2 accounts, one is Admin and one is user. I copied some files to the user account, I only installed DriveDx, no other Apps yet.

I tried to shut it down (from Admin account) and it just doesn't shut down. Spinning wheel for about 10 min.

I have to do a hard shutdown on a brand new machine, but I guess there is no other option, right? 10 min is too long.

What the hell is it doing all this time? where is Apple Quality Control?

Thanks

Apple's quality control is definitely slipping, and beyond that their support and turnaround time on repairs are growing worse by the day.

But this time it's not their fault.

You installed 3rd party software and then had a problem rebooting.

Macs stall on shutdown/restart when programs don't quit properly. You just installed a background app that hasn't been tested against the latest Mojave updates.

I doubt that DriveDX is causing the hangup, but anything is possible.

Try removing DriveDX and see if that makes a difference.

next step would be a fresh reinstall, run system updates, and see if the issue persists. Could have just been a glitch in the OS update process. Or maybe a glitch with 10.14 and these new machines.

I don't doubt that it is the source of the problem. Has it been updated for APFS compatibility?
