First Mac Mini Pro in the house

Set up the first Mac Mini Pro in the studio yesterday. i7 6 core, 16gb, 256 SSD and 10 gig ethernet.

First time is a long time where a new Mac is significantly faster than other machines we already have.

A few issues setting things up since up until this machine running 10.14, the latest OS we have been running is 10.11.

It recognized and properly addressed a 4k LG monitor which is nice.

The plan is to add another one shortly and look for a 10gb ethernet switch and finally retire my Power Mac G5 server, replace it with Highpoint Thunderbolt 3 external RAID boxes and let one of the mini's act as the file sharing server.

Nice, leader.

Question: How do you have it connected to your LG? HDMI or TB3?

I've been on the Mini train since they first came out. Brilliant buy on your part, you buy the computer you need...and nothing more.

On my 6th Mini right now!

WTF is a Mini Pro?

Apple has produced MacBook Pros, Mac Pros and now iMac Pros but never a Mini Pro.

Mini L E A D E R!

I’m pretty sure I’ll be in your same shoes sometime next year when a local server gives up the ghost.

That's an exciting purchase! I miss those days when a new computer knocked your socks off.

Thanks all. The 27" LG 4k monitor is connected via HDMI. The monitor came with a display port to display port cable but the Mac Mini does not have that.

Doesn't the Thunderbolt port supply DisplayPort data?

You'd probably need an adapter.

But the 2018 mini does support 4K over HDMI 2.0 so there's no real need to use T-bolt.

WTF is a Mini Pro?

The new one, that's actually pretty darn fast.

Unlike say the last one one which was hopelessly crippled.

FYI based on the Geekbench 4 Multicore test, the i7 mini is about 30% faster than the quickest i7 5K 27 inch iMac you can buy. Only the iMac Pro is faster.

The quickest Mac Pro is not quite as fast as the i7 mini.

Did you order from Apple?

How long did it take between order date and delivery?
