Ad Blockers and 'Host' File
Posted by: andypie48

I am getting so many demands to disable my ad-blocker. I remember back when we just used a 'host' file which accomplished much the same thing. Can I go back to using a 'host' file or will it be detected and trigger the no-ad-blocker demands?

Oh, and where do I put the 'host' file in OSX?

Try an ad blocker with anti-ad block blocking:

Ad blockers are reactive, and seldom if ever, proactive.

Like locks, encryption methodology, etc., ad-blockers work for awhile, until a site can detect and block them. Of course, that makes sites' ad-blocking detection reactive as well.

Keep all your ad-blockers updated.

I use both ABP and maybe 1Block, whatever's free.

I use 1Blocker. Worth $4.99
Edit: the problem with using the hosts file is that it constantly has to be updated. You have to know the servers the adhosts are using. 1Blocker and other ad blockers do that for you. With the help of real people who report ads that sneak by.
