Stupid question: Do iPhones contain a light "bulb" that eventually burns out?

I go to sleep with YouTube playing, and the light stays on all night. The light has to come from somewhere.

Not exactly "light bulbs", but rather LEDs. Found this video that shows the actual part in action.

They're lED lights and a bunch of film/polarizer layers to bounce it/filter it around.

Watch a youtube iphone backlight replacement video some night.

Edit: unless it is a new one with an OLED screen. In which case the LCD are 'self-lighting' and you'll fine the manufacturers embracing dark UI to extend battery life.

I believe the LED's in backlights are typically rated for 100,000 hours. Or 11.4 years if left on 24/7.

And yet my son's LED on his iphone 5S died after about 4 years and needed replacement.
I'm sure that they fudge the numbers on the rating.

One of the ways numbers are 'fudged' is to rate an LED, bulb, or panel at a level, less than full output, that will certainly be exceeded by most users.

There are enough variables in specs taken on trust, that actual life expectancy is often bears little relationship to lab scenarios.

My Mom still uses my original iPhone daily to play a few games with long term statistics (she has an iPhone 6 for regular use). Still working with original everything after 11+ years.

Some burn out sooner and some later.

My original and 3GS 'Phones still work, at least as an iPod.
