Video of SpaceX Falcon 9 "water landing" and some details...

Pretty fun watching it all the way to where it falls over into the water, after reaching "zero" velocity at "sea level" and cutting the engine.

Overlaid on the video are some details, and here's a neat bit - this booster is being salvaged (pics elsewhere of it floating, getting a tow back to port), and according to Elon's tweet, this booster may be put back into flying shape for some "internal missions" (I read that as a "test flight" booster with no commercial payload).

Another tidbit I learned on a spaceflight forum - the Falcon 9 control computer "aims" the stage for that spot off the coast (a couple hundred yards), on purpose... just in case this sort of things happens. The course correction to the landing pad is a "last minute" thing. If the control computer detects something like this dead grid fin and high roll rate, it aborts to a "splash" by not correcting to get the pad.

And this turning a ‘failure’ into a successful test of the backup system. Nice.

To paraphrase Elon Musk... "If you're not failing, you're not innovating".
