my local apothecary can no longer acquire Xingu an old fave.

Darn the Luck ! ! !

So I have bevy of beautys to try.
Zywiec Porter. Poland.
Against the Grain Brown Note. From Ky, like bourbon.
Barrier Brewing Lights Out Peat Smoked Stout. local to LI. Had others from them.
Spider Bite Imperial Brown. local to LI. Had it before.
Anchor (old fave) Porter. Not had in years.
Cigar City Maduro Brown Ale.

The apothecary gets quite the variety from around the country and overseas. But them IPAs. Yck.!

How does it stack up against Guinness?

Xingu is definitely not Guinness.
Spider Bite Stout is closer.
There is nothing like a real Guinness.

Wow, I have not had that in years. A good Russian imperial stout from the awesome brewers at the Berkshire Brewing Company is something you should try.

Mmmm Berkshire and MMMM Russian imperial. I'm with you on the IPAs. Problem is, I read beer magazines that tempt me with amazing sounding beers, and they aren't distributed here.

RIP's are good, but I prefer Porters and Belgians.
I don't think Berkshire makes it this far south, or not that I've seen. A friend of mine is op man at a brewery near there.

That's a rich area for breweries. I loved Element the last time I visited. We love a lot of styles-porter, stout, wheat, sour, gose, barrel aged...

I like porters and Belgians, too, but I was just giving a suggestion for a substitute for the Xingu, which is much closer in texture (edit: not as high in abv, so I think I'm mistaken) to the Russian. My favorite porter was discontinued, sadly, and I've been searching for its replacement for a few years now

y'ever try Founders Porter from Mich ...... I think.
really good.

Otter Creek Stove Pipe Porter was a good one, but they discontinued.
Hill Farmstead from Vt makes some great stuff, but extremely tight distribution.

The Stove Pipe was the one!!!! Best porter I've ever tasted. Sigh.

The Founders is good, and there's a local near me that I also like, but I get a little misty thinking about the pipe.
