refrigarate after purchase

some items say "refrigerate after opening", that make sense, but some items say "refrigerate after purchase". specifically those laughing cow triangle cheese wedges. Why they do not need to be refrigerated in the store? just curious. Thanks.

It probably has XX amount of days of shelf life before it should be refrigerated to extend that shelf life.
They can assume the grocer's turnover.

I'll bet the company's legal department insisted upon it

ShopRite keeps them in the open space but closer to refrigerators, so while not directly in the refrigerator, they are in a part of the store that is cooler than average I would say.

Could it be that Laughing Cow packs the cheese with an inert gas, just as 'chip' makers do? Once package is opened it's exposed to oxygen.
dunno smiley

I previously purchased a sugar-free syrup that required refrige after opening. I have since discovered it was the only s-f brand with that requirement. Has to be an oxidant in it that refrigeration inhibits.
