A couple of internet browsing questions

i use firefox now. When I visit a web site, say cnn.com, I get a question like this.

I click Not Now. next time I visit the site a few days later, I get this question again. Is there a way to PERMANENTLY disable this stupid question? more and more web site compete for my attention, and I do not like that.

Also, even with a modern computer (MacBook Air 2017, brand new, Mojave), when I open a web site and start reading, then a few seconds later a stupid ad or video loads and the content is moving up or down by an inch or two (depending on what loads and where). This is very annoying. I should try to use the reader mode more. But still, does anyone else notice these things and do they bother you?

Firefox preferences, Privacy & Security, scroll towards bottom, "Permissions". Click on "Settings...", remove all websites, click checkbox to block new requests.

re your 2nd point: I got so frustrated, I use a firefox tool to block javascript. With NoScript installed, I can block or allow javascript for various sources on every web page. Often pages don't work properly or there are so many java sources, I'm not willing to dig in and see where the problems are... I'll just open those in Safari which I keep in its pure state.

I think blocking java also blocks a lot of those requests for subscribing, but not all of them - I could be wrong on that

For floating videos and sticky headers/footers, I use Kill Sticky.

Drag it into your bookmarks bar and click it when necessary. It only kills for the current session, so the crap will be back the next time you visit the page.

Alisdair McDiarmid is a senior software engineer based in Toronto, Ontario.
He really doesn't like sticky headers much at all.

I agree with this guy!

I've been using Kill Sticky for long time.

Love, love, LOVE it.

It gets rid of those floating headers that take up way too much real estate on my 12" MB. It gets rid of those dumb FB, Inst, etc., share palettes.

And yes, floating videos.

McDiarmid deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.
