Ebay purchase of some vintage audio gear.

Shipped on 12/31

Anticipated delivery 1/28

Cost was 2x what was quoted for online screening.

Blech.

......agreed.....it is worst/on par with USPS media mail [ it basically is the USPS delivering FedEx ]......it is so slow and the tracking is useless......

I purchased something right after Christmas and it was sent SmartPost. FedEx tracking showed it arrived locally in 2 days, but FedEx held it for 5 days before releasing to USPS, to make sure it didn't arrive a minute before the projected delivery date, I guess.

Ebay has three levels of service: Economy, Standard and Expedited

If they listed 'Standard' delivery in the listing and shipped FedEx Smartpost (an 'Economy' Service), you have every right to ask for your shipping fee back AND negative feedback. At least it wasn't sent Media Mail.

Somehow I managed to avoid SmartPist this year despite a ton of online orders, from a variety of third-party sellers at Amazon and eBay. As a tiny-time seller on eBay I've not seen it pushed at me.

I can't imagine any seller wanting to ship things by SmartPost, it seems only $1-$2 cheaper than Priority.

Was listed as economy, though with a what felt like more than adequate shipping allowance included.

TLB,

I sincerely doubt Fedex purposefully held the package. It isn't in the company's best interest to do so. The last thing a small package carrier wants is extra packages unnecessarily clogging the lines. It more likely got delayed due to overall volume and the holidays.
