Apple Watch customer identifies A-fib heart condition after dismissing symptoms as ‘holiday anxiety’

“And it said, ‘It looks like your heart is in A-fib. You should contact your doctor,” Maden said.

With the watch showing Maden what his actual heartbeat looked like, he decided to go to a hospital. “When I got to the ER, they did an actual EKG on a cart — the real deal,” he said.

Sure enough, medical professionals told Maden that he was, in fact, in A-fib. “It would’ve probably taken me longer had I not had something actually telling me that something’s not right,” he said.

I don't know that it saved his life, but it probably was at least a 'nice to know' situation.

He originally bought the Watch for the Help, I've Fallen feature.

Tim Cook teases new Apple services: Our 'most important contribution to mankind' will be in health
Elizabeth Gurdus6:53 PM ET Tue, 8 Jan 2019 | 01:08
Apple will announce "material" new additions to its growing roster of services in 2019, CEO Tim Cook told CNBC on Tuesday.

"You will see us announce new services this year. There will more things coming," Cook said in an exclusive "Mad Money" interview with Jim Cramer. "I believe it'll be material over time."

The new services will be ones that Apple has "been working on for multiple years," especially in the realm of health care, Cook said. Apple has been investing in health and wellness in recent years as it capitalized on the success of its Watch and hired dozens of doctors to bolster its health technology segment.

"I believe, if you zoom out into the future, and you look back, and you ask the question, "What was Apple's greatest contribution to mankind?" it will be about health," Cook told Cramer.

With products like its electrocardiogram-equipped Apple Watch, the iPhone maker is bent on "democratizing" health care, Cook said.

"We are taking what has been with the institution and empowering the individual to manage their health. And we're just at the front end of this," he said. "But I do think, looking back, in the future, you will answer that question: Apple's most important contribution to mankind has been in health."

I haven't been able to find the ECG feature on my watch.

Assuming you have a Series 4 Apple Watch, watchOS5.1.2, your 'Phone is updated to 12.1.1, and you live in the US, open the 'Phone's Health app.

From there, setup the ECG app. When finished, the ECG app should be on the first Home screen on your 'Phone and on your Watch.

I just set it up on my Series 3 Apple Watch.

I just set it up on my Series 3 Apple Watch.

Since the S3 lacks the sensor/digital crown electrodes, how do you take the ECG?
