Apple bought me a case of wine today.

Back in the dark days of the mid 1990s, before Steve Jobs returned to Apple and it looked like Microsoft might put them to death, I was a fervent Mac lover. As a show of support, I bought one share of stock, directly from Apple.

And completely forgot about it for 22 years, until last week. When I discovered that that one little share had split to 28 shares of AAPL.

Tonight I went to the Western Supermarket and went a little wild at their 20% off closing wine sale.

I was heading home, feeling a little sheepish and guilty about spending $337 on wine, and then I walked in my place and saw a $343 dividend check from Apple in the mailbox.

I should have thrown in a six of beer.

Thanks, Steve.

I’ll toast you when we open a bottle.

In your earlier thread you mentioned that you lost some dividends because they were too old. It's quite possible that they're not really lost, but instead turned over to your state as "unclaimed property". Check your state's list.

Several years ago when there was a discussion on the forum about unclaimed property websites and people searching and finding stuff, I did a search on Steve Jobs and found that he had some Apple dividend checks from his one share that he never cashed and they were turned over to the state of California.

was that a 12-bottle case? all the same or a variety? and that was with 20% off, huh? so normal priced would have been over $30 per bottle.

I do feel the difference between cheap wine (say under $10) and $15 per bottle, but after about $20 and up I can't feel much difference. for me personally it would be a waste it pay more than $20 per bottle.

I received an $80 bottle of Champage 6 years ago as a business gift. Opened for the holidays on Xmas Eve.

It was clearly better than the $15-$25 bottles I’ve had, and really good, but I wouldn’t pay $80 for it—maybe $40. If I were spending a couple thousand/year for wine, instead of a couple hundred, I’d give it some thought.

I write a blog about Argentinean wine, so it's a specific hobby for me.

Malbecs Only

I think some $40-60 Argentine bottles are better than $100 California and French stuff. It's all relative.

I think the lift from say, $14 to $22 can buy you a significantly better wine, and from $22 to $35. But you have to figure out what you enjoy.
