I've seen SO MANY dead 2011 mac minis - the top of the line models with the AMD video processor (2.5GHz i5 and 2.7Ghz i7), but the lower model, the 2.3GHz i5 and the server 2.0Ghz quad i7 that simply relied on the on board video seem to still be going strong.

What happened with the 2011 mini that you bought?

Please note - When I say 'died', I mean that the motherboard needed to be replaced in order for it to work. I don't consider a dead hard drive = a dead computer. Please do not vote if you own/ed a 2012 2.5GHz i5 mini - that's a different line.

2011 seems to have been a bad year for graphics failures in the MBP and Mini lines.

I was aware of the MBP graphics issues, I had no idea that Mini had line had the same issues. Did Apple ever come up with a repair program for the minis?

Have an i5 and two i7's still in use. All have been running pretty much 24/7. Never had an issue (*knock-knock*).

If the AMD video processor on the 2.5GHz i5 and 2.7Ghz i7 is malfunctioning, can it be switched off and the built-in Intel graphics processor be used instead?

I just migrated from i7 2011 mini to 2018 i7 mini using Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. Prior to that, spent several days cloning and cataloging various external drives using the 2011machine and a Thunderbolt dock. The only issue I had was somewhat flaky startup from a drive originally cloned from my newer iMac (had to start in safe mode first) , but once it started it was going fine. The graphics is practically unusable n safe mode, but I don't think it is specific to this model.
