Sigma 16mm f1.4 vs Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f2.0-recommendations?

I’m looking at getting one of these for Sony E mount, for landscapes. I know they’re different fields of view; either is ok. I’m wondering if the 12mm quality is “good enough”, of if I’d get noticesbly. Diaper, more contrasts, less distorted images with the Sigma.

Any idea experiences or thoughts are most welcome!

Thanks in advance.

How much distortion is worth the cost benefit to you?

Some distortion can be fixed in Photoshop. I believe this feature began in CS4. Definitely in CS5 since I use that version.

Well, any distortion that is unfixable would lead me to spend more...

What is your time an effort worth to you?

Ok, so how much of a difference is there? That's the question I'm trying to get an answer to--not more questions!

Can't answer your question about these 2 lenses as I haven't used either as I have a full frame Sony. One thing to be aware is that the Sigma is auto focus and the Samyang is manual.

The Sony can be set up to quickly magnify the screen or EVF to facilitate manual focus. A friend is using the Venus Laowa 15mm f/2 manual focus lens and is very happy with it. At $850, its a lot more expensive than either the Sigma or Samyang.

I am looking at these two lenses but I am not a user of either of them.

Without ore research, one big difference is how wide do you need to go. One is a bit wider than thee others. That could be your tie breaker.

Doing a little reading, I would go with the Sigma. Seems that Samyang/Rokinon quality control is all over the place. The one lens they have that seems to get good reviews a cross the board is their 35mm, which is probably because that focal length is the easiest to get right.

If 20mm isn't too long, take a look at the Tokina Firin f/2. The manual focus version has gotten really good reviews.

Tokina and Sigma QC is well above Samyang/Rokinon. You will most likely get autofocus as well. The S/R tend to be manual focus if I recall correctly.

I have the a6000 and bought the Roki 12mm F2 for landscapes a while back. I'm really happy with it (a smaller lens and quite a bit less cost-wise than the new auto focus Sigma 16mm, which I haven't tried). The Roki does produce a bit of purple fringing but it is easily removed in post. It's a bit soft at the edges but nothing I can't live with. Easy to shoot with in manual on the Sony system. That being said, the Sigma wasn't around when I bought the Roki but from what I've seen on youtube, it really looks like a nice lens.

Good video review here:

If I didn't already have the Roki, I'd be going for it but my next purchase will be a zoom lens to replace the kit 16-50mm, possibly the Sony 18-135mm, for vacationing.
