Bald Eagle!

A few weeks ago my wife heard a strange bird call, looked out the window at the tall pines behind our house, and there was an eagle, sitting on a broken trunk. She called 'Eagle!', I grabbed the SX50 sitting on the counter, and fortunately got a few shots before he flew away.

I'd heard reports of eagles on our river, and a few months ago glimpsed one diving for a fish, but had never gotten a good look—until now.

Awesome! Migrating bald eagles stop at Lake Couer d'Alene near us for the spawning Kokanee salmon. It's pretty spectacular, but I haven't gotten as good a pic as yours

Very nice shot ! We will hopefully have a pair nesting in a nature preserve a mile from our house. They fly overhead during the summer... I have to go outside with the Chihuahuas because one of them made a pass at our eldest little girl a few years ago. Fortunately I was outside and saw her swooping and protected the dog by waving my arms and taking an aggressive posture.

Nice shot! thumbs up

I'm so glad they're making a comeback. Around here, they are doing well. The local paper had a pic a few years ago of about a half dozen frolicking on the new ice of nearby Houghton Lake. I usually see at least one every season around my neck of the woods.

We have a nest on our property - I think they have hatchlings - never sure until they are big enough to peek over the edge!

That bird practically posed for that pic.

Nice!

Nice! We have a couple of bald eagles that hunt on our lake. Not just fish, but the mallards too.

Love the photo. One came and sat, several times, in a tree about 15 feet away from my deck a couple years ago. I was never able to get a really good photo of him because of the intervening leaves, his rapid departures when i showed up, (I would be only about 30 feet away from him/her at that point), and my lousy photo skills.
S/he stopped coming after a while, partly because he didn't like me sitting there watching him, but mostly because that wide stretch of river behind my house was too exposed for any big fish to spend any time in. It was a restaurant with bad service.

That is a beautiful photo.

Thanks. More luck than skill. I've been keeping the SX50 on the kitchen counter to get shots of birds at the feeder. The eagle was an unexpected bonus.
