The saying Revenge is Sweet is terrible. I would never feel satisfaction in harming someone who has wronged me.

I haven't been harmed by someone to the point where I would want to hurt that person. One person threatened a family member, and I told that person the harm I would respond with would be overwhelming. That person disappeared from my life.

....does it matter the degree.....??

....not talking about something minor but when someone does something with callousness, disregard and resounding effect for no other purpose than to cause harm....or for nothing but self-motivation.....clearly indicating someone who is pure evil.....

My revenge story:

I was hired into a position to support my new boss, and do the work that he brought in, basically. By good luck and prior experience, I got looped into a $3 billion project, and did well enough on it that the client brought more work to me.

My boss stole that work, stole the credit for me, and told the head of the organization that I had no prospects for bringing in more work. That led to my being laid off, which led to some hard issues in other parts of my life..

Before I left, I landed a new job, working with CxO level executives from Fortune 500 companies. I was given an exit interview with the head of the organization. I told him that my boss had stolen the work and the credit. I also told him that I was going to be working with people who would have needs that my old organization could fulfill, and that the billings would probably be in the hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars per year.

He then asked me if I would bring any of that work to the organization. I told him, "Not so long as Mr. X is working here." Not long after, Mr. X was let go (he had other issues, including an inability to bring in work).

That was extraordinarily satisfying.

Mine was more 'letting it happen'....
The President of the defense company I worked for as a project manager called my boss and I into his office.
"cbelt3, some auditors are coming. I want you to tell them that the invoices we created for these contracts are legitimate." (We had no such contracts).

"Sir, I must respectfully request these orders in writing."

Cue LOUD management explosion, which my boss interrupted and excused me from the meeting. Half an hour later my boss called his team together and said:
"Folks, security may be here at any time to escort cbelt3 and I out of the building. It's been a pleasure working with you. And you (he points to me) were PERFECT. Folks, never let anyone tell you to lie."

Nothing happened.

A week later the auditors came in. The faked invoices were discovered. I was asked if that was my signature on them. I explained that it was not, and noted that my official signature looked like an epileptic chicken scratch. Notes were taken, documents were photocopied.

A month later the President was called to Switzerland to talk to the Board. He flew there first class as befits someone of his lofty station.

He was summarily fired, and flew back coach on his own dime.

Four months later our division closed and I was laid off.

Revenge, like forgiveness, is an artificial construct we use to make ourselves feel better. It serves no purpose more meaningful than patting a dog on the back.

In the long run it can be more satisfying to let karma run its course, leaving one's own hands clean. Quiet praying for karma to do its thing is permissible, however, as it can have a calming effect.
