Yeah. Pretty lack luster. Public speaking is not his forte. And the fanboys whooping and hollering sounded kinda fake. Dunno. Maybe I'm just tired and cranky.

The interesting tidbits, to me, had nothing to do with the Model Y.

Tesla Gigafactory 3 in China is coming along FAST.

Gigafactory 1 in Nevada is now outproducing EVERY other battery maker in the world.

The Powerwall and Solar Roof systems that were de-prioritized are being ramped back up.

These are all things that mean FAR more to the long term future of the company than the cars.

I took a look at the Y and it's and interesting car, but it really makes me like the Volt even more.

Unfortunately, neither are on my shopping list.

All the Teslas look like there's something missing from the front and look incomplete. If I were to get a Tesla of some flavor, the first thing I'd do is look for a vinyl wrap for the front end depicting a grille. This would be the ticket:

...

interesting, may I ask why? I have the Volt (2014) and it is only 35 mile electric, and seats 4. The Y seats 7 and has a 300 mile range. I don't know how comfortable are the back seats, but they did show 6 adults getting out of the car last night. All seemed emaciated though, I don't know how 6 average Americans would fit in there.

I much prefer Elon's straightforward unpolished presentation style to overly produced and rehearsed fluff from most of the tech leaders. Steve Jobs was the only tech leader who could do a polished presentation that actually was entertaining and sounded honest. I'd say that Elon is second to Steve.

They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

And Steve J took awhile to find his stride. Musk has gotten better each year.

I watched Musk to the reveal for the Model 3 and yes, he's no Steve Jobs but to be fair he kept on point and did a good job laying things out. Just a little stilted in his delivery.

So these, and other rear- and mid-engined cars wouldn't make your cut?

It depends on how well the front end is designed, engine placement is irrelevant to me.

There are few of your examples I wouldn't have with a grille.

lots of cars have fake grilles!

As with augmented breasts, as long as they look good, I'm OK with that.

Oh the other hand, there are lot of grilles I don't care for:

He really needs to study some of Steve Jobs' unveilings. Had this been one of those, there would've been an ear-splitting response from the cloud. As it was, the viewer couldn't even see the car because they chose a dark blue paint job on a dark stage. The few fan boys who were apparently there offered a very sad response.

It's like Tesla is oblivious to details when in Musk land. While there's persistent attempts at constructing a real reality distortion field, it still falls way, way short when these events go live.

Watch some video, Elon, and learn.

A license plate?

I rarely see a front license plate on a Tesla in California.

A license plate?

No, it's the grille.

That big blank space where a grille would be lends to the 'something's missing' vibe I get.

I don't recall seeing one without the required front plate.

But given your observation, I'll start looking. I'd be interested in seeing if the mount for one is installed. It's state specific as there were/are some states that only require/required a rear plate.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be installed when the owner takes delivery of the car, and not a dealer/DIY install.

The should have just designed it differently. Like they did for their upcoming roadster. What's that guy supposed to do in order to afford a $200,000 plus car for roadstering? A lawyer? Probably. Just settled some class-action lawsuit and wanted to treat himself. Maybe we all should have studied the law as our base education.

I like the grillless look. Says the car is electric and yours isn’t. Of course, most all other drivers will be looking at the electric’s taillights.
