Someone remind me why I'm using an older version of Firefox

Yes, I'm behind the times. Still using Mavericks, although I plan to upgrade soon.

As for Firefox, I'm still using 53.0.3. There is--or was--a reason why I didn't upgrade to newer versions, but I'm old and my mind is going and I can't remember why. old fogey smiley But--at least at one point--there was a reason. Anyone? grinning smiley

I'm thinking whatever the reason was, it's not worth it to stay with the old version... because it SUCKS!

By the way, I'm really laughing at myself for being so old and curmudgeonly and resisting change.

They moved the tabs up to the top. I hate that.

They dropped support for 90% or more of the old plugins/add-ons.

There's that one website dedicated to pre-1800 wagon wheels based in Lithuania that only renders properly on that particular flavor of Firefox.

I was still on the v53 ESR version of Firefox at work because I needed both Java and Flash to do payroll online. Recently I was upgraded to the v60 ESR, the online payroll had been updated to no longer need Java.

You might be on to something. I vaguely thought it might have something to do with Java. But I don't remember what the Java issue was for and it's been so long, I can't imagine it would still be an issue.

It's for websites which use the old style Java plugin. The best way to get the most recent version of Firefox which supports Java and has reasonably up to date security patches is to get the 52.9 ESR version. It's still out of date security-wise but is the *least* out of date.
