Best way to deter rabbits?

Spring was sprung in the Blue Ridge...and the rabbits are coming out. There’s a lot of them around the house.

How to discourage them from chomping on the foliage in the yard? It’s not like they have a lack of it across the street in the undeveloped lots and woods.

Dad was considering shooting rock salt at them before he passed away. Now I’m dealing with it. I’m sure the neighbors would not appreciate rock salt being shot (one of them feeds raccoons, skunks etc on a regular basis and thinks they are “cute”; I don’t share that sediment - they shouldn’t be actively feed by humans)

I’m considering a sling shot with clay pellets but wondered if anyone else has a better idea. There aren’t many rabbit proof plants available. The advantage of the clay pellets is they shattered and are biodegradable.

The question is would rabbits learn to avoid the yard or is it just a finger in the dike? Curious minds want to know...
TIA

BTW I think it would be very entertaining to shoot clay pellets at them at dawn and dusk when they are out feeding.

Get a Labrador Retriever, ours loves keeping the rabbits and squirrels out of her yard. Forgot to add by the tuffs of rabbit fur found in the yard the local birds of prey keep the rabbit population under control too.

While I would LOVE to get a dog,it’s not a practical solution for me at the moment. Besides it would mean it runs loose at dawn and dusk. There are hawks around, they aren’t a reliable source of elimination. Plenty of vultures but that means it has to be dead first.

Fox pee might work but not coyote according to the Amazon reviews.

Would rabbits learn from being shoot at with a slingshot?

We don’t have the cover or habitat to sustain an owl box. But I will research it more...

I do, believe me, but the rabbits are a bit much here. Plus there’s the entertainment value...

You could try a motion activated sprinkler.

One example:

Unfortunately, very few homeowners have the temerity to do the stuff that needs to be done to truly control rabbits. It isn't polite, it isn't PC, it can be messy, and it requires almost continuous vigilance. If you aren't willing and able to go there, the rabbits will persist. Same is true of raccoons.

Milorganite fertilizer works for a couple of years for deer.
Check it out and see if people say it works for rabbits.
It is organize fertilizer made from human waste, and apparently many animals don’t like the smell.
It is cheap and it won’t burn your plants.
We have it at HD

They’re delicious in stew or spaghetti. A Benjamin 1322 or 392 should be sufficient to deter them.

Blood meal has worked for me in the suburbs. But in your environs it may attract other unwanted wildlife. I think Milorganite is good for ornamentals but not for food crops.

A couple of times .
There are rabbits here . No one hunts them . Not an overabundance. My dad knew a person that caught this so we didn't hunt them .
