Who wants it? But KFC or some place is advertising the combo.

In all of your travels you've never been to the South?

It's pretty popular throughout the south. Never been my thing. I think I tried it once half a lifetime ago and all I could think was that it ruined both the chicken and the waffles and that was 100% not okay with me.

As brotha Zoid' remarks, it's a southern thing. I've never tried it. In my head I can't imagine it'd be a desirable combo. But people say you have to try it. I like both chicken and waffles, and so don't want to ruin them for me by trying them together (thanx for the heads up Zoid').

A few years ago, I worked out a good waffle "recipe" for fried chicken and waffles.

In order to go with the chicken and gravy, I made the waffles savory with onion, pepper and a splash of steak-sauce. Sometimes, I'd add bouillon. A bit of extra baking powder to compensate for the extra liquid and acid and BYU.

The maple syrup is key, the real stuff, of course. And you have to make good fried chicken (and good waffles, for that matter).

Dairy Queens in the lower mainland of British Columbia also have a chicken-and-waffle promotion going on.

Almost makes me believe in astrology.

it’s the flavor combo of the sweet maple syrup with the saltiness of the fried chicken. similar to the popularity of salt and caramel in some desserts and a certain frappuccino.

I have invented a dish but haven't tried it yet: fried boneless chicken on hash browns, covered in gravy.

Big on the west coast too. Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles has been around almost half a century.

You can also get your waffle on at the inestimable Hash House A Go Go in Vegas. Waffles and flapjacks the size of a 33LP.

Properly fried in iron skillets. When you don't want to eat too too much you get the Obama Special. 3 wings and one waffle.

I have to admit that I'm a much bigger fan of pork products than chicken, especially fried chicken.

I think a big slab of high quality ham on a waffle would just rock.

So, vis, what is the proper way to "do" Roscoe's? I've been meaning to go there for years (decades, really) and I think I'm going to try out the Inglewood location soon. Any pointers?

It's a piece of cake. The Inglewood location is a nice one. Here's the menu: [www.whereisthemenu.net]

As a young man, I'd get the "Scoes Special, 3 pieces of chicken and 2 waffles. Now I have to get what amounts to my "diet" plate. 3 wings and a waffle. I'll get a side of grits and maybe some eggs if it's morning. A strawberry lemonade works well.

I would say I'm 100% happy with meal 95% of the time. A couple of times the chicken was a bit overcooked but still good.

I had that at the Hash House a Go Go in Chicago. But looks like it's closed now. But it was good. A few years ago. Your looks way better than mine.

There's a few places in Oakland CA that do chicken and waffles.

I've been wanting to get to the Home of Chicken and Waffles in Jack London Square.

That's a good place. Being the Bay Area of course it has to cost more. It stays open to 4 am Friday and Saturday nights which is crazy. I went on a weeknight and it was cool. There's street parking + Jack London Square parking right across the street.

The Hash House was one of our Vegas can’t miss places back in the day.

And until this very moment it had never occurred to me that it was one of those El Dorado like places where... the food they served actually looked as good as the pictures on the menu. smiley-shocked003

When served on a plate in the South it's revered. When it's stacked like a sandwich it's demonized.

It's a taste thing, sure. It's very southern. That said, I've not seen anyone in my family eat it (not my own family, my parents' family, my in-laws' family). However, it doesn't mean they don't; I just may not have been witness to it.

I can't see mixing one with the other and, again, I tried it once and it was not my thing. Not at all.

Love them both, separately. On their own. But not together.

Agree, although I've never actually tried them together. Our work is having food trucks here today, as part of "Take your daughters and sons to work day", and every time we have the trucks here, there's always a "waffles and chicken" truck. I prefer the Korean BBQ truck though.

When it's stacked like a sandwich it's demonized.

True.

On the same plate is fine by me.

That's how I feel about McGriddles.

As separates, great. In a sandwich, not so much.

At all.

I'm not a fan of fried chicken and waffles. I like the chicken and churros combination more. I also tried chicken with maple bacon donuts once and that was pretty good.

No self-respecting true southerner would use Maple Syrup. Cane Syrup is the way to go from Tennessee south.

My mother. When we were kids, we used to beg her to buy Aunt Jemima, Mrs Buttersworth or Log Cabin syrup. Now, we loved the Cane Syrup (Brer Rabbit and Argo) but TV told us we needed the popular syrups. To this day, while I'll have healthy bread, I keep a loaf of Home Pride based on it being drilled into me by TV. My PB&J bread has to be soft.
