Siri almost got me in trouble with my wife

I grabbed a bowl of Chili from work yesterday evening and I put it in the car. to make sure I don't forget it there overnight, I pushed the crown button on my Apple Watch and asked Siri to set a reminder in 10 min. Siri asked what is the reminder about, I said "Chili".

So I get home in about 8-9 min and Wife gets an alert on her watch, about "Julie". She is like who is Julie??? I looked at my iPhone and yes, there was the reminder about Julie. Siri misunderstood, probably because my accent or ambient noise (I was outside at the car when I set the alarm). We got a good laugh out of it. I tried again and this time Siri understood Chili correctly.

So I am not having any affair with Julie after all sad smiley

.....not so fast....you are having an affair with Chili......and it involves your mouth......and a lot of mouth action......

....the more important question is why does your work have free chili....to take home.......??

All that explaining makes you sound guilty. Julie's probably mad at you too because you stood her up.

I hope Julie wasn't the name of that intern from a couple of years ago....

If it was, there’d be no talking his way out of this one!

And depending on how spicy this Chili is, there may be some butt stuff involved, too. smiley-laughing001

My wife can always tell when I'm using voice to text to send a message. My son's name is 'Ender'. Siri can't figure it out no matter how many times I correct the message, it's always translated as 'Andrew'. The funny thing is his legal name is 'Andrew', so she isn't technically wrong, just very formal.

I'm surprised someone hasn't gotten "swatted" yet due to Siri/Alexa/etc. misunderstanding a command or ambient conversation. I figure the day is coming, though.

Since I know what book that's from, that's especially funny!

My daughter's name is Gwendolyn; we call her Gwen. Neither my iPhone nor my wife's will *ever* get that right; it always writes "Glenn" and, if we say her full name, "Glenn Can Win". @#$%& you, iPhone.

So the fun response whenever I get a text from my wife like, "I'm taking Glenn out to eat" I will always respond "WHO THE @#$%& IS GLENN!"

It's spelled " y'all "

All that explaining makes you sound guilty.

Especially when Siri gets it right.

'No, really! Watch... Oh, crap.'

Years ago, I splurged for the $5/mo on our Sprint Family Plan to get voice dialing across all phones. It had a couple of fields so you could put in nicknames and/or phonetic spellings to avoid confusion. Today's assistants can pretty much do the same thing, though I hate to say it, but Android voice to text is generally more accurate than Siri.

I'm thinking we can teach today's assistants to substitute assigned names for descriptive phrases for texting, so that "number one daughter" becomes "Gwen", and therefore, "I'm taking number one daughter out to lunch..." becomes "I'm taking Gwen out to lunch..." in the text dialog. And if it doesn't work that way, it sure as heck should!

It does, and you can teach spelling word by word (or name by name), but for the Gwen/Glenn conundrum, especially if you known some of each, the descriptive phrase option may be more viable.

OTOH, for a one "chili/Julie" situation, I'd say post it online to get as many laughs as possible.
