How to: 27-inch 5K iMac (2019) 128GB RAM Upgrade - Save $$$!

Ok, everybody already knows how to do this but this is a great DIY video on showing how it's done by my favorite video presenter, Jeff Benjamin of 9to5Mac.

He also gives a shout out to OWC. Some of you may have heard of this vendor.

The video showed $1100. Maybe OWC lowered prices since the video was shot?

Didnt look at the video, assuming its how to upgrade the ram... which upgrading the ram in a 27" iMac has been the same process since 2012. A 5 year old could do it.

Wow, that's an amazingly accurate assumption.

How'd you ever get that? LOL

As I said in the very first line, and I quote:

Ok, everybody already knows how to do this...

This point is — it's a great video, very well done, as simple as the task is, done by a great presenter.

It's just me, but I wouldn't let a 5yo upgrade my RAM.

My bad... I read this far and stopped. I wasnt even going to post until I read jonny's observation about the 21" iMac, and ASSumed again some peeps must not be aware of the differences. =)

I prefer OWCs video myself -- looks like the 9to5 guy struggles with getting the door off, or even damages the button opening with his ink pen...

I like the guy a lot. I don't know why, I like how he explains what he's doing. watch at 10:57 and 11:02, I am very sure that is a Crucial SSD in there. He says this is a "brand new iMac" but that means it has been opened before, I don't think Apple uses retail Crucial SSDs.

Yeah. I was puzzled when he unwrapped the power cord and said it was the first time it had ever been turned on…yet when it booted up, his login picture appeared.

Nevertheless, I agree with RAMd®d that he is a good presenter, and I appreciate the share even though we all "know how to do this." I believe that in the past he has done installation demos on the OWC site.

I posted this video because it's the first mention I've seen of 128G o' RAM in an iMac, and I really like Jeff Benjamin's presentations.

But since we're dissecting the video:

The video was made prior to and posted on April 2, this year. As OWC Larry confirmed, there's been a price drop in the RAM. Yea!

Benjamin does struggle to push the button. He doesn't nail the dismount of the door, true, so only earns a 7.0. The button isn't damaged.

I too like how he explains what he's doing. Note that he seldom, almost rarely misspeaks throughout this demo. It's a hallmark of all is demos, compared to virtually every other presenter, ever.

He probably has a script posted, but it never sounds like it. The cadence is natural. He also never sounds condescending, always friendly. Contrast this to Andrew O'Hara of Apple Insider. I'm sure he's a nice guy but his voice, cadence, and elocution are very annoying. He sounds like his eyes never leave a teleprompter.

His video is only 7:40, so there's no 10:57 or 11:02. It did boot up with his login picture. But did you also notice it booted to the desktop and there was no setup? He no doubt edited all of that. Maybe there was a second boot-up for the sake of continuity. I can overlook it if that's the case.

His voice is very distinctive, so I'll listen for it when watching OWC videos. But I always look forward to his videos because they're consistently excellent, which is a rarity.
