The Macs themselves, or the hard drives?

None have names other than being descriptive as I have more than a half dozen in various roles. However when it was just one, they had a series of names usually corresponding to what I was watching on TV at the time.

I don't even have a custom icon for my work Mac's HD now though it's the first fully managed Mac I've ever used. I'm part of that management team so the 'management' isn't as draconic as it may seem. I 'de-manage' things as they get in my way.

not in any particular order, although, the current one is the last one...

Back when we had a bunch on the same network, yea. My studio name has a reference to trees, so we used to name them accordingly

Server was "Redwood", for example. So you would just tell someone "I put it on Redwood" and easy enough to find it.

Juniper, Pine, Sequoia, Maple, Oak, etc.

If you have several attached drives, they need more identification than Macintosh HD. I generally use names from a favorite British sci-fi series, although lately I’ve been using moons of Jupiter. The Macs themselves tend to just have descriptive names.

No, but I do name the drives. Used to be named after Simpsons characters... actually still have a few that are, but also have one called Music, and another called Toshiba.

Offhand I can recall:
Macster (Classic II)
Potemkin (After the battleship. It was Pismo PB)
Zephyr (My first MB with an SSD), Succeeded by Zephyr II, my current MBP
Comet (PB 2300c, borrowed the Apple code name for it.)
Belle (The Mrs.' MBP)
Blackbird (Black MB, again not particularly original)

Some I can't recall, but I did give them all names at the time. I once bought a single lot of old macs off eBay back in its early days; named each after Disciples while I refurbished them. There was no Judas.

It's a mix of actually naming the hard drive and the name of the computer in network settings, but it's The Name Of The Computer in my mind.

I have never named my Windows work computers. They have no personality.

I also named hard drives years and years ago. I had Kit Kat, Snickers, Baby Ruth, Butterfinger, and a couple of other classic candy bars that I can't think of at this moment.

I can't ever remember naming computers though.

I've generally used the hard drives' name or model (ie 1TB Samsung SSD; DualCorei7_13"MBP etc). That makes it easy for me to spot a particular computer on a network.

ServerI
ServerII
ServerIII
Node1
Node2
Node3
Node4...

Though I had a client that named their wares after all stuff tropical island related. They started off with just Hawaii, then eventually had to expand their horizons as they grew. Since I also love Hawaii and tropical things, it was a good fit while it lasted, eleven good years until they cashed out and the company that bought 'em moved the operation too far out of the area to keep the gig. After they ran out of islands, they started adding in favorite beaches and volcanoes, and such. Initially the naming operation was pretty stealth, but eventually some names were very readily identifiable to their authors.

Usually just by the model. Currently they are
"G4"
"Cube"
"Blueberry"
"Mini"

Blueberry hasn't seen power for a few years now. iMac G3/AV. Sulking in the basement. Next to G4 and Cube, who also haven't been on for a while.

I guess on my work machines I haven't. Yes, I have named them. My take is it's not so much about naming the drive but what shows up in the Sharing prefs. Past names have included:
Hac Pro
NRG (play on "energy" - I needed extra motivation at the time.)

And I guess I've forgotten the other names :/

Just thinking that I should have a Winkin, a Blinkin, and the old iLamp G4 would have had to be Nod.

My iPhone SE is Gandalf. That's the only one I've actually named, and only to identify it when using it as a WiFi hotspot.

Good luck.

Of course! The most recent have been Puck, Titania, and three Oberons (all desktops, Oberon 3 is current). The laptops were Snug, Flute, and Bottom. From the 20th century, I recall Sergeant Garcia and Buster. No names for the pizza boxes back then, though.
