Remember moviepass? They are/were/will be around. They promise.

So apparently folks were still using moviepass. Until Thursday.

Then, not so much.

“MoviePass is going dark while it sorts out some changes to its app.”

“... There's never a good time to have to do this," CEO Mitch Lowe said. "But to complete the improved version of our app, one that we believe will provide a much better experience for our subscribers, it has to be done."

The outage began Thursday morning. The company hasn't said when the service will be back up.

In a letter to subscribers, MoviePass also said it hopes to "recapitalize" and would continue efforts to cut costs.

The company says it'll credit customers for the days affected and won't bring on any new subscribers while the service is down.

MoviePass also said in the letter that it had been working for several months to make changes to its service and "ensure it meets the vision we have for it."”

The stock for moviepass’ parent company, Helios and Matheson Analytics, opened in July of 2018 at 47.50. It closed Friday at .0025 (No, no extra zeroes or misplaced decimal).

I knew a nephew of a neighbor of a friend's aunt mailman's friend who had/has MoviePass. And is using it regularly. But other than that I've never known anyone who used the service even though it was discussed about in the media almost every day during it's peak. Strange.

Still, it traded over 12 million shares on Friday (a bit over $30k worth.)

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

I thought they had a chance of surviving when they went to the $15/mo for 3 movies a month plan after the new year but for some reason they went right back to the failed model of $10/mo for unlimited.

They are also doing another reverse split; something like 1000:1 or something. They are probably shutting down until this happens and then they will dump millions of more shares on the market to try to raise some more money for the executives.

At this point they are just a scam. Even before the outage ie. ran out of money, people weren't able to see anything as all the movie listings were gone from the app by late morning.

I stopped using mine months before it expired. Most movies I wanted to see weren't available or suddenly became unavailable during the course of a day.

They're saying customers who bought annual memberships and the like will be credited for the 'retooling' downtime.

That and a dime, will get you a dime.
