The Nikon D7500 is a midrange APS-C DSLR that both sits below and borrows a lot from Nikon's APS-C flagship D500 including its 20.9MP sensor, high-res metering sensor (used for subject recognition) and very probably its image processor. In a lot of ways, it's like a mini D500, which in and of itself is like a mini D5. All three are built for speed.

The D7500 gets a 2 fps bump over its predecessor and can shoot 8 fps for an impressive 100+ JPEGs (3x the buffer of the D7200). That's not quite as fast as the D500's 10 fps burst, but it's still serious firepower for enthusiasts and serious photographers alike. Its AF system remains the same, reliable 51-point module from D7200 and D7100. But the new metering sensor should mean better 3D Tracking. If you haven't guessed by now, this is a great camera for fast action photography.

Key features:
20.9MP APS-C CMOS Sensor
51-point phase detect AF
8 fps burst for 100+ JPEGS or 50 Raws
180k-pixel RGB sensor for metering and subject recognition
3.2" tilting touchscreen LCD
Deeper grip
Weather-sealing
4K (UHD) video from 1.5x crop of sensor
In-camera batch Raw processing
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

the nikon d7500 also has a nice additional feature: highlight weighted metering.

when asked, the camera will expose the brightest source as just within the right side of a histogram thus preserving highlights.

the highlights stay within bounds and you then lift the shadows in post creating a very well exposed image.

highlight weighted metering can often be a very good tool.

I've not used that camera, but my D7200 is a superb camera and I'm sure that D7500 is a steal. The D750 felt the same to me too in the hand. Of course I'm no histogram peeper in general but I do purposefully underexpose often. I don't generally nail exposure right out of the camera. I do try.

I would say this is the best value in the aps-c DX realm for Nikon at the moment. Room to grow. Almost has all the same features as the D500 including weather resistance and a high frame rate.

I am still using a D7000 with a Tamron 16-300mm as my walk around camera. Wondering if I should finally upgrade.

My D7000 was stolen along with my great Tamron 17-50 2.8. I replaced it with the D7200 and the High ISO was some better but it felt like a similar experience. I was happy with handheld 3200 ISO shots with the D7200. I'm thinking that improves greatly with the D7500. I would say yes at that price. Plus the D7500 has 4k video.

considering that you only score an iPhone 8 for that price, this looks cheap.

I should get around get getting a 4K camera and better low light ISO capabilities.

I think you should definitely consider it.

I'm not a Nikon shooter but I played one on TV... no, wait, wrong thread...

Anyway, I have a colleague who is a D500 devote, and while I don't know details about the camera, he creates some pretty impressive low-light sports work. The D500 also has a faster frame rate. Then again, it's twice the price of the D7500.

The D7500 is 8fps, D500 is 10fps. I guess each person needs to judge how much that 2fps is worth.

Limited warranty seems kinda stingy!
