MacGurl and Greg The Dogsitter.... joined by the phorum, separated by mental and physical illness, and ultimately joined in the hereafter.... Makes me cry to think about them.

I did not know about The Løpe or BigGuynRusty.
I have good memories of all, and wish their spirits rest and relief.

BigGuynRusty

I always wondered where he went. didn't realize he had "moved on". he was quite opinionated, but entertaining and knowlegable about several things.

LIfe really is a roller-coaster ... trick is to enjoy the ride. I think they did, but the ride was much too short.

I miss 'em all.

Greg's demise was, in some ways, the saddest (ALS).

I miss talking genealogy with AlphaDog (Beth).

I miss Minty, even when he was posting drunk and annoying.

After he left threatening phone messages on my home phone, I can honestly bid BigGuynRusty good riddance, though.

mrbigstuff; I don't recall his first name, but I think his middle name was Loper.

BGnR threatened me a few times, too. I reported him to the Admins at least a couple of times, and the Admins also contacted after receiving complaints from other forumites, and IIRC, he was banned temporarily, and then permanently. If he passed on, it was after he was banned.

The others, OTOH, will continue to be missed.

And what of Laffypete? Teela? et al?

After a really nasty encounter with Lafayette Pete, I searched him out and found him. I wasn't really gonna do anything, but I wanted to know. I discovered that his aunt was a pioneering Sierra mountain climber with dozens of first ascents to her name. The whole family were big time sierra proponents. I verified all of this with him and we found a vast common ground that in my mind was far greater than the nasty political disputes over which we battled. After that, I wouldn't partake on those battles. I wouldn't defend him either, but I came to see him as that cantankerous uncle that you just kinda like anyway because you both love the blues... or something like that... I would roll my eyes and say, 'there he goes again' and smile instead of fume.

When backpacking in the sierra, EVERYBODY you come upon is a friend. You share a very strong bond - the love of the mountains. When meeting someone hiking in the other direction, you talk about the upcoming terrain... about the weather... about the wonderful things you have seen. You DON'T talk about political affiliation. To me, he was one of those friends.

I found that to be a very valuable experience.

I always wonder about RGM especially during hurricane season. I think he only posted here a few times after the transition from DM and then went silent.

I’ve thought about RGM and his battle with the VA system on and off through the years. I had a lot of sympathy for him.

Guess I was lucky then.. He got really upset with me about commenting on his HomeRunHD / PopcornTime video player setup, or whatever it was. I figure he just got banned, along with elmo3. Good riddance.

MInty was still my boy despite what you mention. I felt badly for his struggles. It eventually came down to basic survival issues. He sold some kind of equipment and was basically being priced out of his circumstances.
