One piece toilets join the tank and base.

How about those German waterless (until you flush them) toilets? It sure does tend to discourage reading the paper when you're on the throne.

In that case, I prefer a monokini.

Banana hammock, just because I like the term.

Both have pros and cons.
I prefer 1 piece toilets for simplicity to install. It's heavy though.
But it's one time only, for most people.

Back on topic? If you install yourself, I find the two piece easier to maneuver. I've also had a tank fail on a couple of occasions and it is a lot cheaper ordering a new tank than a whole new unit. Especially since integrated units are more costly to begin with. One piece units are easier to clean and look more "modern".

Or in the wall tank, with wall mounted toilet.

I prefer thighs to breasts. Two sides, though.

Go with a two piece toilet, it's rare that they leak between.

Two-piece, because they’re cheaper. If I’m ever in a situation where I get to consider aesthetics in bathroom design, I may reconsider. But, if my cheap toilet in my cheap bathroom fails, I’m replacing it with another cheap toilet.

Yup, I went with in-wall to save a little space. They make in-wall units that fit in 4" studs now. It was a bad sign when my contractor didn't even know this and showed me a picture of his personal "in-wall" installation where he'd built out a 6" enclosure for the "in-wall" tank. facepalm argh

I'd take a close look at that for a whole bathroom remodel otherwise it just looks more complex and expensive. Need to patch the floor underneath the existing toilet.

That in-wall could make a huge difference for our currently laid out bathroom.

Ditto...one & done.

Those who want the "mount on the wall" toilets...better be sure you're attaching to masonry or steel, NOT wood studs...the latter flex too much & you will be replacing the wax gasket every year or so or you will have leaks, don't ask me how I know.

Do you mean the side of the back porch? Great during warm weather for sure but not so great in the winter.

Aside from the stink factor, having no water in the bowl is going to guarantee a skid mark every single time. Nope, not for me.

Very clever, although I prefer the Australian term "Budgie Smuggler".

^ This. Ease of installation coupled with ease of service win me over every time.

A little too "modern" for my taste. The first one I saw was in the late 70s at a friend's house, and to me it looked like a harvest gold colored space shuttle had crashed part-way through the bathroom wall.

Based on a lifetime of experience living in old and sometimes crumbling rental properties, uh-uh, no way. I want everything out where I can see it so that if it stops working I can fix it and if it starts leaking I can shut it off and then fix it.

On it's own or in a bathroom full of equally "modern" fixtures it probably would have been, but in the context of a bathroom from the late teens or early twenties with all-original fixtures except the toilet in which the only other concession to "modern" was that the clawfoot tub had been boxed in and the box tiled over when a shower and closet were added in the early fifties, it just looked weird and woefully out of place.
