Some Canadian wolves get up to 175 lbs. They need to be pretty big to take down a 1400 lb moose or a 1600 lb bison. I think most people would be very afraid of something that big trying to drag them off for a meal.

Eastern red wolves in the US are barely larger than big coyotes. You see a real well-fed timber wolf, that's whole 'nuther animal.

It helps that they usually hunt as a pack.

Very few people have been killed by wolves in the USA.

Very true. Maybe 5 since 1900. It just doesn't happen. Same with cougar killings.

That being said, that's why I carry a 10mm when in the mountains collecting rocks and minerals. Essentially no grizzlies in the lower 48, or significant moose on the West coast, so it's enough.

Agreed, probably more people killed by dogs, usually their own.

But yeah, bears are a bigger threat.
