What are forumites' facial hair preferences?

There seems to be a resurgence of full beards these days. I had a mustache in the seventies and briefly tried a full (but short) beard in the nineties but otherwise have been clean shaven.

Scruffy.... I haven't shaved in a couple of weeks, I hate shaving, but it never looks like much.

These polls keep skipping me.

I don't think that what I have would properly be called a "full beard."

I usually keep it trimmed neatly to about 1/8th of an inch (and 2/8ths along the chin). More than "stubble" (which is roughly 1/64th of an inch), but less than a full beard.

In the winter, I'll sometimes go "Full beard but neatly trimmed," but it's not my standard.

Mustache, goatee, and short sideburns in warm weather, full but not long beard in cold weather.

Sported a 'stache for 25 years, but upgraded to full beard trimmed two years ago. Felt the 'stache alone was getting dated. I'd go for the clean look, but the Mrs voted for the beard.

Coming up to 44 years with a full beard. Kids and grandkids have never seen me without one. They think I'm teasing them if I show them a "pre" picture.

As full a beard as I can get, not really patchy, but not dense (77% Native American) Generally keep it 1/8 to 1/2 long (time to trim).

My wife has gotten used to it over the last 10 years. My youngest hates when I shave: "You look like a weird man-baby!"

Had a goatee with mustache for years. Shaved it off at beginning of summer and liked the feel. Enjoyed shaving my full face. Daughter screamed that there was a strange man in the house. Son made subtle comment about how the goatee helped highlight my jaw line (in other words without it I looked fat). Wife was generally kind, but started commenting about things like nose and ear hairs.

I grew it back mid-August.

45 year old beard that I get a notion to shave every decade or so, the family vote is always overwhelming no don't do it. Guess they're a bit afraid to find out what I really look like.

I had a mustache for 25 years then back about '95 I shaved it off. Been clean shaven since then. But, when I had my knee surgery in August the only work I could do while lying in bed was to grow some facial hair.

So I have a circle beard and I'm growing it until I have to start trimming it and then I'll decide whether or not to keep it. But there are a lot of women who like it so... rolleyes smiley

Oh, yeah-my wife is OK with it but she also says let's see what it looks like grown out.

I like the scruffy look because it means I shave only when I feel like it. Or when SWMBO tells me to shave.

I think it is more popular now. Certainly the “haven’t shaved for two days” look is common enough - my daughter in law actually insists on that with my son, says he looks like an adolescent when clean shaven.

Also, pro sports figures are often sporting full beards now - at least certain sports, like hockey, where virtually everyone has a beard, it seems.

Clean shaven for 20 years after my dads passing. He said it made me look old. Now I am.
But have been stubbley the last week coz I'm feeling lazy.
I'll keep it for another, but prolly shave clean, again, soon enough.

Tell you what, while I sport a beard now, if I lose my job and have to re-enter the interview game, it's back to clean-shaven for sure.

Started letting the full beard grow out in May. I voted “gone wild,” but it’s been growing in a pleasing shape all on its own thus far. Same with my hair. At some point, it’ll all become scruffy. Not sure what I’ll do then. Maybe help it along, or maybe go crazy survivalist.

Heh! I voted gone wild, since that's what I've done for the past year. I have the longest beard of my adult life and I'm starting to look like a garden gnome!

I've always had a beard of some sorts, but prior to my gone wild stage, I was buzz cutting my hair and beard for the past ten years.

Last year during deer season, I decided to let it go and haven't trimmed anything except for my pie hole so I can eat without snagging a whisker or two. My plan was to cut it off when the hot weather came, but kept it since it wasn't bothering me.

I've also let my hair grow out and funny thing is my hair is still brown but my beard is nearly all grey! dunno smiley

Moustache/goatee. Shaved head though. In winter, I usually let the hair grow a little bit, and usually let the beard fill in. Only takes about 2-3 weeks to grow a decent full beard. After about a month or two, I shave the beard and head.

Have had the moustache since the day I graduated high school. We weren't allowed to have any facial hair in high school, so I stopped shaving the moustache that day.

Just a reminder to all that can grow a mustache, Movenber is coming.

[en.m.wikipedia.org]

Apparently one is supposed to start with a clean lip on November 1st. Heck with that, I’ve only trimmed once since my customary brush cutting for the dermatologist this summer. She says it makes me look younger…

I'm not quite "beard gone wild"... but definitely enough to grab on to. Not quite the "Full Gandalf" though.

Started it about five years ago on the advice of a 19 year old who was flirting with me. She fluttered off and nothing ever came of that but some very "inappropriate" texting. She had HUUUGGEEE... tracts of land. And great big beautiful... eyes.

After school started again, and my beard had finally lost that "scruffy, forgot to shave" look, two different 5th grade girls told me they liked my beard. This was totally NOT the demographic I was trying to impress!

I figure I'll keep it a while longer... Might trim it down some later in the year. Don't know yet.

That happened with me as well.

Wife claimed it was follicle weakening due to my incessant use of muscular tissue in my face and jaw, in the meantime she added that my scalp was directly effected by the absence of cranial activity and thus dormant.

My hair went gray before my beard, thanks Mom!

Used to wear my hair down my shoulders, now really short. Thanks chemo!

Got used to having it short, I can pretend I’m having “deep thoughts” when I massage my scalp. Might go long again just to see if it will.
