mail.app problem immediately after changing comcast p/w

i just changed the password on my primary comcast account email address. my mail client (mail.app) now cannot verify my password, so i cannot receive new mail, such as that i just sent to myself from another of my comcast accounts. however, i did receive emails from comcast confirming my new password and my payment made immediately after making that change. i am using mojave. i'll appreciate your assistance.

have you checked the disk to make sure it is OK? have you restarted?

delete the account, then restart, add the account?

Did you get the Comcast message about changes to port settings?
Long shot, if you're using a VPN, its IP address might have been blocked by
Comcast's new mail security measures.
