Keyboard lagging and showing optional characters
Posted by: roshi

Relatively new Mac Mini with an Apple bluetooth keyboard (Magic keyboard?) and two Magic Trackpad 2. Catalina.
Occasionally, the keyboard lags behind my typing, or offers strange alternate characters.

How do I approach debugging this?

What vintage bt keyboard? Have you already deleted/forgotten and re-connected the kb from bt prefs?

RJ asked, "What vintage bt keyboard? Have you already deleted/forgotten and re-connected the kb from bt prefs?"

It's a Magic keyboard, about 2 years old, the latest style.

I haven't deleted the bluetooth preferences. Yet.

I went into LIBRARY and found a bunch of keboard and magic mouse preferences and put them into the trash,

then

I shut the computer down, unplugged it for a minute, then started it up again.

now, temporarily at least, the BT devices are behaving themselves

Just an FYI, generally, just restarting your Mac after trashing prefs will do what you need.

The shutdown and unplug drill has value in other areas. It may help for stubborn prefs, but as fast as most modern Macs restart, I'd go with that first.

Regardless, you fixed it, so good on ya.
