I just got a shipping update which contained this text.

delivery
ON THE WAY
1 item
Order #123-456789-000000
A driver might contact you by text message, chat or call for help delivering your order.

I don't think I've ever seen this before, except maybe when I had a TV delivered...
No TV this time though...

They've been tagging all Amazon deliveries with this message lately.

Doesn't make a difference.

At this point, I've learned to ignore the ETA and status messages that my package has been "delivered." Similarly, messages that the courier couldn't access my building are fake.

For me, Amazon delivers a package on time maybe one in 5 times when it's Amazon doing the delivery. They've got their system set up to push fake tracking info and fake delivery-notifications.

The notification-light on my Echo is the only accurate delivery-notification, corresponding to an actual delivery.

I got the same message for a small box they delivered the other day.
No one called and it was left on the bench outside the front door.

I hate that I don't get a tracking number for AMZ deliveries any more.

I'm just referred to their site and all I get is the day on which it's due, or 'sometime today before..'

When I got a tracking number, I was apprised of the various steps and location prior to delivery.

I rather enjoyed that.

My favorite bit about deliveries these days:

Order a cheap thing; say a box of pens from an office supply place. UPS sends me a message: Your package is arriving today! Follow it on a LIVE map and get continual updates (click here)!

$600 worth of computer stuff: Your order should arrive today. Delivery 8 AM to 11 PM. No Signature Required.

I believe that amazon is starting to use an Uber-like service to deliver packages.

They've been doing that for a while (been seeing those guys since last summer (?); maybe 2018 Christmas season) as they transition to their own branded regional delivery system. Pretty much all my Amazon deliveries lately have been via their own Amazon trucks.

I just won't trust an important order to amazon. I never know if it will be delivered to me, delivered to my neighbor, left on the front yard right next to the street or nowhere to be seen at all. If it's important or valuable, I'll order it elsewhere. if I can only get it through amz, I'll have it delivered to mom's retirement home. At least THAT'S a sure thing.

My Amazon deliveries are either UPS or USPS, always sent a tracking number, sometimes even can do the live track thing with UPS. I have noticed that regular USPS deliveries (not Sunday) get marked delivered about 30 minutes before it actually happens. My guess is the driver scans everything before entering a neighborhood.

Bad practice from USPS employee. If packages never get delivered, they “are officially delivered” in the system. I’d report it before packages start disappearing.

Well. No one ever contacted me. And my patch cables were delivered safely.
