Man killed at Maryland Popeyes in fight linked to popular chicken sandwich

A man was stabbed to death outside a Maryland Popeyes in a fight
over the chain's popular fried chicken sandwich, police said.

A spokeswoman for the Prince George’s Police Department said the 28-year-old,
who has not been identified, was killed at a restaurant in Oxon Hill, outside Washington D.C.

A fight began after someone cut in line, spokeswoman Jennifer Donelan said.

"For you to get that angry over anything — for that type of anger to develop into this type of violence,
again is a very sad and tragic day," Donelan said.

The fight began inside the restaurant and later moved outside, Donelan said.
The man was rushed to a hospital where he later died. Authorities did not identify a suspect.

Popeyes began selling the sandwich on Sunday after a two-month hiatus.

The suspect is still at large.

The guy who lost it over someone cutting in line is a perfect example of why it’s smart to avoid confronting, and escalating a situation with, a stranger or someone you don’t know well (assuming the two people were not acquainted). A month on a homicide grand jury back in the 90s convinced me of this.

Was the line cutter or the cuttee killed?
Just wondering.

A man was stabbed to death over a chicken sandwich at a Popeyes in Maryland, sources told police. The suspect remains on the loose.

The man was stabbed about 7 p.m. Monday at the Popeyes in the 6200 block of Livingston Road in Oxon Hill, Prince George's County police said.

According to a preliminary investigation, an argument started inside the restaurant when one man cut in front of another man in a line specifically designated for those ordering the wildly popular chicken sandwiches that returned to Popeyes restaurants Sunday, police said.

The argument spilled outside, where one man stabbed another, police said. Responding officers found the victim in the parking lot suffering from stab wounds, police said.

Societal mental illness. Over aggressive responses to perceived slights (no matter how minor) are the hallmark of a depressed socio economic population raised in the 'might makes right' communities.

When it's in court this will matter, but in the news who cares?

Which is why it’s silly to say this was ‘over a chicken sandwich’.

This, road rage, post game beatings at sporting events, Black Friday brawls, symptoms, not the sickness.

for the record, far more people are killed by bladed weapons than rifles. Same with feet/fists and blunt objects.

The mental and emotional urges do do this crap are far more common than they used to be. I think a database of why is just as important as how.

It’s harder to conceal a rifle than a handgun so this does not surprise me.

I agree. It’s the person, not the weapon.

Yes, blaming the weapon is the quick, easy answer that people bandy about.

It's misdirection, even if unintentional.

Just like making the sandwich part of the headline.

It's not the actual problem but it fits with people generally being prone to willingly accepting and providing knee-jerk, simplistic responses, like – Darwin award, etc.

What killed them (or got them killed since we don't know the how) more than likely was incivility. A protocol breach that defied the general etiquette.

Imagine someone cheating here (Thailand) cheating the line. Probably no one crazy enough to slay somebody but probably wouldn't go well.

It's more than a mental health issue. There's a lot of people who only care about themselves and no one else. There's a serious lack of respect and responsibility for one's actions.
