Rick Rescorla saved c. 2,700 people from the World Trade Center South Tower on September 11, 2001.

Post about Rescorla and video of the ceremony at the White House here (17 min, worth watching):

The major media probably won't pay any attention.

"Rescorla died a hero’s death saving all but 13 of his 2,700 charges at Morgan Stanley in the south tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11. Rescorla was head of security for the company; he directed the evacuation in which he had long drilled the company’s WTC employees. "

Great post Mr Lynn.

OK, that was very much deserved. Colonel Rescorla's devotion to his mission and refusal to dumb down training and evacuation saved so many lives.

The New Yorker did a great piece on him back in 2002, which is well worth reading (again, even if you have read it before).

Rescorla - the way he lived, and the way he died, is so inspiring. And the way that he took care of the young men, the 20-year olds, who were terrified to be in battle, surrounded and way outnumbered. He sang to them.
