Apple Mail app 37

Gmail.com (from the browser) 12

Most of my corporate working friends laugh at me still using Apple Mail, and almost all use the Gmail.com interface for their email needs.

Catalina removed a couple of basic UI features of Mail, to the benefit of Absolutely No One. But I still find it an easier way to organize things, remove files, and stay to the basics of Zero Inbox theory.

Just curious if any of you prefer Gmail.com, and why. Or if any of you have tried Gmail.com but ended up coming back to Mail.

If you use a 3rd party email system ( Postbox, Outlook, Spark), would love to hear why you like that solution.

I use gmail via browser on computers, gmail app on my iPhone.

In “ancient” days, gmail had the best spam filters. I also found it convenient to use the browser based solution as I was on multiple desktops during the day.

Otherwise, inertia rules the day and I have not tried anything else.

I use the Apple Mail iOS app with my gmail account.

On a desktop, it's gmail in a browser (preferred).

90% of the spam Gmail catches is legitimate mail. BUT, it's mail I really don't want to see. I don't need to see every Toyotathon email.

I like both Apple Mail and GMail. On my daily driver phone it's the GMail App. On my iPhone it's the Mail app. It's that indecision that has kept me single.

Dang. Should've added that, along with AOL.

I use Apple Mail at home and Gmail browser at work.

I can't stand the new (old by now) GUI on Gmail. There's always a bit of a delay. At times I click the email (in the column) and if the cursor is too close to the trash can, the email gets deleted.

I rather go back in time and use a text based browser email.

Gmail is what I give out to Pinterest and PBS.

Come on people the g is for GOOGLE.
On a whim it could go the way of Google +

Nothing says professionalism like a Yahoo or Gmail account.

Google + was unpopular. Gmail may be the most popular product on earth.

I hear you. I recently agreed to do some freelance work for a company, but I’m not a freelancer of anything. So I don’t have a “deckeda @ deckeda . com” personal email

I reached out to who I was tasked to communicate with and some replied back to the boss wondering who I was and why was I using a Gmail account. The boss never did an introduction at the outset; not my problem. My wife worked for the same boss for years and her Gmail address never got in the way.

It’s the recognized gold standard for email, not a me-too Facebook wannabe that Google+ was. Anything else is a corporate account, tied to some other tech company (as Outlook is) or an ISP account, all of which have more limitations for more people.

If I want a personalized, “official sounding” email address I can pay someone $6/month to provide me one.

I have both, but I use gmail only for stuff that I don’t mind Google sifting through. I won’t use it for anything related to my finances or personal life.

I don't need my personal email to sound professional... that's what my work email is for. And it's Outlook on a PC.

I have a gmail account that I use the web interface or the Mail app on my iPhone to access. I use Apple Mail on my Mac for two other accounts. My email needs are not very demanding. I don't have any rules setup or anything, and I don't feel the need to sort any of it (except at work, on Outlook). My Gmail account it my everyday account. I get about 50 or so emails a day on it. I used to have a Yahoo account... probably still do. I usually check it about once a year. Might be a few years since I checked it. My two other accounts get a lot of advertising email. I check once a week or so, and there might be one or two emails there worth reading.

I won't use gmail because I don't want google reading my mail. I also don't want google rejecting sent mail with encrypted attachments because it can't open the attachment to pry.

Apple Mail - works on all my emails. Except when it doesn’t work with exchange. Then I use outlook.

I still miss Eudora.

I use Apple Mail. And I delete maybe .0001% of my messages. I have the emails of everyone checking in on each other during 9/11, 15 years of work email. I’m not the most organized person, but Mail’s search engine helps me find what I need quickly. It works for me.

Surprise, many don't. Instead, they check their gmail email directly via the browser interface, ie, www.gmail.com, instead of the Mail app.

Google also has a dedicated Gmail app but I haven’t heard anyone using it.

It’s worth noting that “Outlook” is an application and not an email service per se. There, you’re likely in the MS world with your company’s email going through Exchange servers. The only reason an email using Outlook typically appears professional is because it’s your “@work.com” account. (Pretty sure you could add a Gmail account to your Outlook app if you prefer using Outlook.

Presumably Microsoft doesn’t read your email but Google does. At least thats the implication here.

I never really hear of people complaining about Outlook they way they do Apple’s Mail. Outlook’s calendar integration is better than Apple’s applications are, more polished and capable. But I’ve so far been able to get it them to work.

When I was working I had a few Gmail accounts.

The 'Phone wasn't in the wild yet, so it was the web interface and it.was.tedious. But it served it's purpose.

The the 'Phone came along and eventually the Mail app and Gmail were one. A much better interface but typing on the 'Phone was slower.

I haven't needed the Gmail accounts for several years now, so they just lie fallow.

It's just Mail for me - from Apple and AOL. LOL!

Nothing says professionalism like a Yahoo or Gmail account.

I watched a TV show, Younger, for awhile.

A 40yo housewife gets divorced and wants/needs to reinvent herself. To compete in the job market, she pretends to be 24 or so and gets hired by a publishing house.

She has to blend in to the age group she's pretending to be part of, as she gets settled. In one scene vaguely recalled, she's setting up her email account (everywhere I worked, that was assigned) and she types in .aol... then backspaces and types .gmail.

Made me laugh because my main email address is AOL, and my mac two addresses are for specific people or companies.

All are handled by Mail, of course.

Yes, I still use AOL as well. I joined back when it was Mac only. A Charter member from the early '90s or late '80s. Whenever it first started.
