Made the commitment to my 2011 iMac replacement

followup to [forums.macresource.com]

Replacing my totally unreliable mid 2011 iMac with lots of questions and gnashing of teeth I committed to our sponsor's 2017 21.5" iMac with i5 processor and 16MG memory. I "gave up" going with a 2019 model and spent more than I really wanted to, but I think this will suit me just fine. Now I have to wait for staff to get back to work and get it shipped.

Uh, the official rule is no ‘Leader’ until the gear is in-hand.

No deal. Got a "we sold more than we have" message, so it is back to square one. And back to the original question, which would be better, an i3 with 16 MB or an i5 with 18 MB?

And with that question is how old is reasonable. Those 2015 machines seem to be awfully close to losing support and not a good long term investment. 2017 maybe not so much a threat, though the clock is ticking on those too (clock is ticking on 2019's too but the alarm won't go off anytime soon on those).

Bummer

Went on OWC chat to discuss what options I have with my order and discovered that I'd ordered a 27" iMac and that device is not available. Of course, what I WANTED was a 21.5" iMac and there is one available. Well there WAS one available; Randy changed my order and I now have the 21.5" i5 with 16GB. It is more than I wanted to spend but it should last me a LONG time (I can imagine it will be the last desktop that I will have to buy which says as much about my age as the longevity of iMacs.

Now I have to wait for it!

This question has been answered in this thread. Twice.

And it's 8/16 GB, not MB.

It is what it is.
